Grasping the Essence of History in a Change——Comments on Qu Jun's New Book "The World Is Cracked"

瞿骏这本著作通篇要回答的一个中心问题是,近代中国思想文化运动(以及政治变革)的实际社会影响到底有多大?这个问题正是要考察当时思想文化的"变"多大程度上触动了地方社会、基层生活的"不变";而地方社会、基层生活又是如何因应、利用来自文化权力中心的冲击和影响。瞿骏试图从四个不同的维度来回答这个问题,即新思想新文化影响的广度、深度、力度和时间跨度。

The central question which Qu Jun's book is going to answer is: What is the actual social influence of modern Chinese ideological and cultural movements(and political changes)? This issue is to reflect how much the ideological and cultural changes at that time have changed the local society and grassroots life; and how local society and grassroots life responded to and used the impact and influence from cultural power centers. Qu Jun tried to answer this question from four different dimensions: the breadth, depth, strength,and time span of the new ideological and new cultural influence.
