美国现代雕塑源自欧洲现代雕塑,但与之又有显著的差异。大卫·史密斯以独立开放的金属形式成为了现代雕塑转型的先驱,并显示出独特创造力,把美国现代雕塑推向了成熟。他也是保守主义雕塑家"新雕塑"的倡导者,其创作遵从了雕塑自身媒介的逻辑性,以独特的创作方式开创了美国雕塑史上的先例。

The modern and contemporary American painting art has been accompanied by controversy, censure and even denunciation. In contrast, sculpture was not the same that was appreciated far more than censured by the art circles. Taking the important moment of the development of modern American sculpture as an example, while taking the creation of David Smith as the base of historiography, this paper discusses the transformation of modern American sculpture in various aspects such as media use, sculpture self-language, in order to provide reference for the domestic sculpture and sculpture creation.
