Translated books of Kiangnan Arsenal Translation Department has played an important role in promoting the modernization of China. The preface and postscript of these books preserves lots of information, which is valued in revealing the content,material, the pragmatic innovation of the author, as well as the motivation, principles and methods of translation. Therefore, the preface and postscript are important materials to study the history of western learning in the late Qing Dynasty and science and technology translation of China.
