From the east of the mist-covered Weishan Lake, a winding river flows eastwards, and enters the Zhong Canal in Jiangsu by way of the vast land of South Shandong. It is the Taierzhuang Canal. With an overall length of 42.5 km, the Taierzhuang Canal is the sole section in the Grand Canal flowing entirely from west to east. When strolling along the canal in 1985, I saw the whole process of ships passing through the navigation lock, and took a picture of it. Unexpectedly, it became an eternal memory. It is said that the navigation lock has become an attraction in the Taierzhuang Canal Water Conservancy Scenic Area. In my dreams, I have returned to that quiet yet familiar town a million times....
