基于语料库的《牡丹亭》符号意象英译操作规范研究

A Corpus-Based Research on Operational Norms of Translating Symbolic Imagery in The Peony Pavilion

该研究利用《牡丹亭》平行语料库,考察了符号意象词英译的操作规范,结果表明:(1)"存象显意"和"舍象显意"的显化、"存象存意"的等化、"隐象传意"的隐化、"舍象损意"和"舍象舍意"的简化是其主要表现形式;(2)"存象存意"的等化是诸多译本的首选,其他形态则处于补充地位;(3)意象图式构成的共性决定了符号意象操作的等化,而图式关系的拓展及中西戏剧传统的差异决定了操作规范的隐化、显化和简化,译者翻译策略的选择则决定了诸译本符号意象英译的个性差异。

On the basis of the parallel-corpus of The Peony Pavilion,this paper conducts a research on the operational norms of symbolic imagery translation and finds that（ 1） the operational norms are manifested in four types of rendering,namely,explicitation featured with ＂keeping images and revealing meanings＂and ＂giving-up images but revealing meanings ＂,equalization featured with ＂keeping images and meanings ＂,implicitation characterized with＂concealing images but conveying meanings＂,and simplification characterized with ＂giving-up images and impairing meanings＂and ＂giving-up images and meanings＂;（ 2） the dominant one is equalization,which is supplemented by the other three types;（ 3） and which is dependent on the common ground of image schemas. Implicitation,explicitation and simplification are mainly effected by space schema arrangement,differences in the Chinese and Western drama traditions and different choices of translation strategies,which in turn lead to the individualities of three English translations of The Peony Pavilion.
