This article is a translation of a paper by Jean-Pierre Kahane, 'Naissance et posterite de Lebesgue' in the journal of Comptes Rendus de l'Academemie des Sciences de Paris, translated by Anhua Fan. It talks about the history background of Lebesgue integrals and its influence to mathematics.
