3月23日，参加2017—2018克利伯环球帆船赛的11支赛队从青岛西海岸新区星光岛起航，开始了第9赛程即中国青岛至美国西雅图的比赛。青岛至西雅图的跨太平洋之旅约5600海里，各船队需要约27天完成这一赛程。本赛程共有4名中国籍船员代表青岛出征。
On March 23, 11 fleets of the Clipper 2017-18 Round the World Race set sail from the Starry Island in West Coast New Area, Qingdao and started the 9th leg, that is, the leg from Qingdao, China to Seattle, the US. The cross-Pacific journey from Qingdao to Seattle covers a distance of about 5,600 nautical miles, and will last 27 days. There are 4 Chinese sailors representing Qingdao to take part in the race.The race this season is divided into 13 legs. After each leg, racing teams get awarding points based on their ranking. After the last leg ends, the team with the most points will win the championship of the season and gain the Clipper Race Champion Cup. "Qingdao", which has taken part in 7 consecutive seasons, is in the second place in the scoreboard of total points and is expected to create the best record in this season.
