An important factor for Maugham＇s reputation and fruitful writing is his stuttering syndrome,which not only shaped his personality,determined his profession partly,but also influenced his life philosophy to some extent.The key psychological reason for his stuttering syndrome was the childhood Mother-lost trauma,which threw him in a life lacking emotional care,hence he never successfully built a stable and reliable attachment relationship with the substitute breeders.To deal with the hard situation,Maugham gradually developed his stuttering as a ＂power＂to prove his existence and values.Maugham wrapped himself in the self-made stuttering armor,and went through the whole life lonely and painfully,because he had never forgotten his childhood trauma.
