As Executive Editor of Frontiers of Economics in China, I am pleased to present this special issue on international trade in honor of Richard A. Brecher. Professor Brecher received his B.A. in Economics and Anthropology from McGill University in 1967 and PhD in Economics from Harvard University in 1971. He wrote his PhD dissertation, entitled Minimum Wage Rates and the Pure Theory of International Trade, under the supervision Richard E. Caves, Jagdish N. Bhagwati and Thomas O. Horst. His first appointment was at Yale University. In 1977, he joined Carleton University where he is currently Professor of Economics. He has also held various visiting appointments at University of Oxford, London School of Economics and Political Science, and Columbia University. He served as Editor of Journal International Economics between 1983 and 1994, and as a Co-Editor and Associate Editor of the same journal in various other years.
