Antoinette: A Type of Traumatic Narrative——On Wide Sargasso Sea

《茫茫藻海》里的主人公安托瓦内特是一个创伤叙事的完型人物。在她的身上既有童年时代因为家境窘迫而遭受朋友嫌弃和背叛产生的创伤,又有结婚之后受到丈夫罗切斯特的侮辱和虐待积累的痛苦;同时在安托瓦内特生活的这个西印度群岛上,她也找不到归属感,当地白人笑话和歧视她们一家;黑人也对她充满了敌意和仇恨;男权文化在她生存的环境里表现得非常突出,她被这种文化控制的社会深深地折磨过。安托瓦内特最后的疯狂以至于毁灭还和她母亲安妮特通过幽灵形式传递的创伤密不可分,安妮特一生都生活在巨大的不幸之中,白痴的儿子因为当地黑人纵火而死在眼前,丈夫梅森更是一个薄情寡义之人,在妻子最需要他的时候将她抛弃,任由别的男人监禁、强暴,最后导致疯狂而亡。安托瓦内特对于母亲的创伤感同身受,最后走上了一条令人无限同情的不归之路。

Antoinette,the protagonist in Wide Sargasso Sea,is a traumatic narrative type. During her childhood,she suffered from the disliking and betrayal of her friends due to her family distress. She also suffered from the humiliation and maltreatment of her husband,Rochester,after getting married. On the West Indies where she lived,she could not find a sense of belonging,the local white joked and discriminated against them,and the blacks were full of hostility and hatred to her. Patriarchal culture was very prominent in her environment of survival,she was socially controlled and deeply tortured by this culture. Her last craziness was so destructive that it was inseparable from the traumatic passing of her mother Annette,who lived her whole life in great misfortune,and whose idiot son died a local black arson in front of her. Her husband,Mason,a thin-framed man,abandoned her when she needed him most,leaving her imprisoned and raped by other men,which led to her madness and death. Antoinette was empathizing with her mother＇s traumatic sensation and finally embarked on a path of no return.
