In June through September 2013, Research Institute of Cultural Relics of Hebei Province and other institutions excavated a group of urn burials and earthen pit burials of the Warring-States Period at Caijiafen Site. All of the urn burials were infant burials, the burial receptacles of which consisted of pottery fu-cauldron, vat and basin assembled together, and no grave goods were found in them. The distribution of the earthen pit burials followed some rule, the grave goods unearthed from which were pottery cling-tripods, dou-stemmed bowls, pots, yu-basins, stone hi-discs and flakes, etc. Referring to the stratigraphical relationships among the burials and the artifacts unearthed from them, the dates of the urn burials are estimated to be the mid and late Warring-States Period, and that of the earthen pit burials could be divided into the early, middle and late phases of the Warring-States Period. The basic features of these burials are roughly the same as that of the burials of the same type on the south side of the Yanshan Mountains and western Liaoning, but the earthen pit burials had their own characteristics. The discovery of these burials provided new materials for the explorations on the diffusion and expansion of the Yan Culture and the development and evolution of the local funeral customs.
