The Sino-Japanese War from 1894 to 1895 exerted a profound impact on China and the world as a whole. In this war,Charles Denby,U.S.Minister to China, promoted American government to change from conniving at Japanese invasion into actively mediating between China and Japan, which materialized the commencement of Sino-Japanese peace negotiation.During the Hiroshima Peace Talks,Denby also offered advice and suggestions to the Qing government, trying to save the peace talks marred by Japan. After the failure of Hiroshima Peace talks,he pushed the Shimonoseki Peace talks forward and helped Japan in urging the Qing government to approve of Treaty of Shimonoseki, which paved the road of Sino-Japanese peace talks.Denby, superficially in answer to the request from the Qing government, actually defended and expanded America's invasive interests in China.
