Double vision is obvious in Beidao's poem "Replies",a bold vision that defies truth, logic, rationality, and authority, strongly voiced in the verse"I don't believe";and a conventional one that yields to everyday reason and logic as an effort to mount the moral height, wherefore"Cape of Good Hope"and"A Script of five thousand years"are mentioned in the poem.Such phenomenon of the co-existence of the courage to "Hit My Head Against the Wall"and a submission to sermonizing can also be found with his contemporary poets and even with classic authors like Fyodor Dostoevsky. The reason behind lies in the conflicts of contingency and inevitability, and freedom seeking and authority worshiping.
