摘要
本文借助Halliday的情态理论,对《离骚》三个英译本中或然性情态翻译进行了对比研究。研究发现:孙译和霍译多采用显化形式翻译原文或然性情态,倾向于体现原文作者的主体性,但霍译情态语义的整体准确度不及孙译;杨译在显性情态处理上有客观化倾向,在隐性情态处理上采用了略译和保持隐性情态的做法,倾向于体现译者自身的主体性。译文中或然性情态的语义偏差与译者的理解、句子主语、谓语结构、情态表达方式的选择和时间参照框架等有关系。隐性情态的显化虽能反映译者对原文情态的理解,但同时也会影响译文本身作为诗歌所应具有的隐性本质,所以隐性情态的显化问题还需深入探讨。
This paper makes a contrasfive study of the probability modality translation in three English versions of Li Sao with M. A. K. Halliday's modality theory. The study shows that Hawks' and Sun's versions both adopt more explicit modality expressions in translating the probability modality of the original poem and tend to display the subjectivity of the author of Li Sao, but in terms of the overall modal semantic accuracy Hawks' version is inferior to Sun's. Yang's version tends to objectify the explicit modality of the original poem and omit or preserve the implicit modality, displaying the subjectivity of the translator. The semantic deviation of probability modality in the versions can be attributed to the translators' understanding, the choice of the sub- ject and predicate structure of a sentence, modal expression and time frame of reference. The explicitation of implicit modal meaning can reflect the translator's understanding of modality but it may also affect the implicit nature of the version as a poem, so the explicitation of implicit modality needs further study.
