Science, Technology and Engineering: The Retrospect and Prospect of China's Textile

中国是历史悠久的文明古国 ,丝绸织造、陶瓷和建筑三大技术与农、医、天 (文 )、算四大学科共同构成了古代中国独特的科学技术体系。纺织自古以来就是我国经济的支柱 ,并曾在 4 0 0 0余年的漫长历史中领先于世界 ,当今我国纺织品生产和出口又跃居世界之首。然而 ,纺织大国并非纺织强国 ,其中的原因是多方面的。本文试图通过对中国古代、近现代和当代中国纺织业发展脉络的梳理分析 ,找出影响其发展的内外因素 。

China is a civilized country with a long history. The Weaving and Making of Silk, ceramics producing and architecture are her three great technologies; Agriculture, medicine, astronomy and mathematics are her four great disciplines. All these technologies and disciplines together constructed the distinct system of science and technology in ancient China. Textile has been the pillar of the economy of our country since ancient time, and it once took the lead in this world for 4000-year far-flung period. At present, the manufacture and export of our country's textile products have jumped onto the first position of the whole world. However, big country of textile does not mean great power of textile, and lots of reasons results in this situation. By regulating and analyzing the developing venation of China's textile in ancient, modern and present time, this essay tries to find out the external and internal factors which affects the development of our textile industry, and put forwards the conception for the transforming of China from 'big country of textile' into 'great power of textile' in the new century.
