The Politics and Criticism on Violence in Adrienne Rich's Works

This article discusses, in light of the intellectual identity theory and with the analysis of some of her well-known poems and prose writings in different historical times, Adrienne Rich＇s construction of literary discourse as a public intellectual as well as the causes that facilitated the formation of this identity. Rich established her intellectual critical stance via her literary practice, such as showing her concern for public agenda, speaking politically for the marginalized and deconstructing the discourse of power. The formation of this stance is an outcome of the macroscopic social context, her internal liberalism and her multiple identities. It is hoped that this finding can be of some reference to the study on Rich on the one hand, and stimulate people to reflect upon the issues like social reality and political justice on the other.
