《到灯塔去》两个汉译本基于语料库的翻译风格比较

A Corpus-Based Comparison of Translation Style in Two Chinese Versions of To the Lighthouse

本文运用语料库方法从宏观语言特征和叙述视角翻译方法入手,对比《到灯塔去》瞿世镜(1988)译本和王家湘(2001)译本的翻译风格。研究表明:1)语料库软件提供的宏观语言特征统计数据不一定能有效区分两译本的翻译风格;2)通过对比两译本的及物性、情态、指示语和人称代词,发现两译本对原作叙述视角采用了不同的翻译方法,对再现原文叙述视角产生了不同影响,体现出两译本各自的翻译风格。作者指出,翻译风格研究不应仅限于量化描写,而应深入语言和叙事层面,将重点放在文本分析及对翻译风格成因的解释上。

The present paper makes a corpus-based comparison of the translation styles manifested in Qu Shijing's( 1988)and Wang Jiaxiang's( 2001) translated versions of To the Lighthouse in terms of macro-linguistic features and their methods for translating points of view. The findings demonstrate: 1) corpus statistics about the macro-linguistic features of translations do not readily identify the translation styles of the two translations; 2) linguistic markers of point of view such as transitivity,modals,demonstratives and personal pronouns are treated differently in the two translations,which have different influence on the representation of the original narrative perspectives and reflect different translation styles. The authors suggest stylistic research of translation should not be confined to quantitative description and focus be put on close textual analysis and interpretation of translation styles.
