Different Names of Buddha

佛祖称谓数量丰富,名号繁多。系统梳理佛经文献资料,对释迦牟尼佛各种称谓名称作了详细考察。佛经文献中佛祖称谓可分为五类;禅宗文献中佛祖称谓可分为四类。其称名理据可以概括为:功德无量、地位至尊,世人崇仰。禅宗呵佛骂祖,是用另一种奇特的方式引导世人悟道成佛。佛祖称谓的泛化从另一侧面反映了佛教思想的发展。

The appellation of Buddha is rich in number and various titles. By the systematic review of the buddhist literature, the various appellations of sakyamuni Buddha is studied in detail. In the bud- dhist literature, the names of the Buddha can be divided into five categories. There are four types of Buddhism in the zen literature. The reasons can be summed up as： the supremestatus and the world worship. The zen use strange way to guide the people into enlightenment. The generalization of the appellation of Buddhism reflects the development of buddhist thought from the other side.
