摘要
As a noted modern American playwright, David Mamet attracts wide attention from the readers, the audience, as well as the academic circle with his fascinating language features. In his plays, in order to achieve their individual goals, the male characters, applying the discursive power with language as weapon, endeavor to build a new structure of power. It aims to analyze A Life in the Theatre, with such discourse-analysis mechanics as turn-taking and politeness strategy, to examine the power relations between the two male characters in the play, and finally to explain how discourse influence and alter the power relations in reality.
