This paper provides a causal analysis of the overseas popularity of Panlong,a Chinese online novel,and its implications for translating classical Chinese literature. It is argued that literary translation should transmit not only the high-level（ intellectual,cultural or spiritual） thoughts but also the fragmented,life-represented Chinese elements. The text to be translated should be charged with a world-universal ‘Pollyanna spirit＇or positive energy. Moreover,translators of various levels from home and abroad are to be encouraged to engage in the selection and translation of the right cyber novels and Chinese classics.Other things being equal,free translation enjoys priority over other approaches,and e-publication is to be advocated.
