《中国文摘》与解放战争时期毛泽东思想的译介

China Digest and the Translation of Mao Tse-tung Thought during the War of Liberation

英文期刊《中国文摘》主要栏目内容涉及革命文学与文艺、中国共产党的政策与规章制度、中国共产党主要领导人讲话与思想的介绍,从创刊到停刊的短短三年内共刊登毛泽东的文章、讲话和声明等15篇。对比《中国文摘》上刊登的毛泽东思想的英译文和新中国成立后大规模有组织的毛泽东著作的英译,发现《中国文摘》上的英译文倾向于"达旨",译者的自由度较大,更多考虑外宣的效果。标题的翻译大多比较自由,几乎每篇都增加了副标题、小标题、编者按等,以突出毛泽东讲话的主要精神和要点。这和《中国文摘》当时所背负的政治任务要求是一致的。作为解放战争时期中国共产党对全世界宣传中国革命斗争的唯一刊物,《中国文摘》起到了沟通中国与世界的重要作用。

China Digest(1946-1950) mainly publishes articles introducing red literature and art, policies and regulations of the Communist Party of China, as well as Party leaders' speeches and articles. Between 1946 and 1950, it published altogether 15 articles, speeches and statements by Mao Tse-tung. Through a comparison of these 15 English translations and their counterparts in Selected Works of Mao Tse-tung translated and published after the founding of our country, it's found that the translations in China Digest show greater liberty on the part of the translators and pay more attention to the effectiveness of publicizing the great leader's ideas. For instance, the titles are not translated word-for-word, and subheadings as well as editor's notes are added in order to highlight the main point of Mao's ideas. These methods accord with the mission of the magazine at the time. As the only foreign language magazine of the Communist Party of China to publicize Chinese revolution to the rest of the world during the War of Liberation, China Digest plays an important role of bridging China with the outside world.
