The House of the Seven Gables, the second romance produced by Nathaniel Hawthorne after his masterpiece The Scarlet Letter, reflects the religious issues of good and evil, sin and punishment.Adopting the U-shaped narrative structure： Paradise—sin—punishment— redemption, the novel describes the sins stemming from human nature, society, science and technology, which undoubtedly lead to deserved punishment.
