胡留元教授是我国著名的法制史专家，做事认真．治学严谨，执著科研．一生以“君子”的要求作为自己为人的底线，从一个寒门子弟成长为法制史领域的专家．在中国古代法制史领域研究成果卓著，开创了西周法制史研究的新局面，为学术界留下了宝贵的知识财富。

Prof. Hu Liuyuan is one of the most well-known experts of legal history. Prof. Hu works seriously and meticulously and he is persistent to his research in all his life. He has a high standard of life requiring himself as a ＂gentleman＂ in life. Born in a poor family, he has spared no effort to be an expert in the field of legal history. His achievements in ancient Chinese legal history are outstanding and his research has created a new phase of the research on the legal history of Chinese Western Zhou Dynasty, which is considered as one of the most valuable treasure of knowledge in the academia.
