汉代诏令的研究大致可分为两个阶段,20世纪前的研究主要是对零散条文的辑佚以及各类文集的著录。20世纪之后研究的内容逐渐丰富,汉代诏令文献文本在文体和文学审美等文学方面的特征得到了重视。同时,两汉诏令对经学文献的引用及其所反映的经学思想亦是重要的研究方面。另外,随着大量汉代诏令简牍的出土及整理,为诏令与汉代历史社会生活的研究提供了更直接更全面的材料,使这方面的研究成为一个愈久弥新的内容。
