This paper aims to discuss the basic ability of innovative academic journal editors in the information age in order to enhance their literacy and hence to improve the academic journals and boost Chinese scholarship. By reading a large amount of literature about editing and studying the work of CNKI and other academic journals, it analyzes their innovative elements and summarizes the basic ability of innovative academic journal editors, including knowledge reserve, technical competence and integrative capacity. It concludes that in order to restore the core function of academic journal-publishing innovative knowledge, the innovative competence of academic editors should be enhanced.
