Analysis of Zhang Han's Making Criminals Act as Soldiers

秦末农民大起义爆发时,在周文攻下函谷关后,秦二世只能以章邯的刑徒军作为主力镇压义军。以徒、隐宫、人奴产子、徒长和豪杰等组成的章邯刑徒军,与中尉军一起三战三胜周文大军。由于赵高的猜忌,迫使章邯率领刑徒军投降项羽,但项羽最终却因粮食不足坑杀了刑徒军。

When the great peasant uprising broke out at the end of the Qin Dynasty, Emperor Qin II Hu Hai（the second emperor of the Qin Dynasty） gained no support from his military forces but to put down the uprising with an army made up of criminals and headed by Zhang Han as the main force after Zhouwen conquered Hangu Pass. This army was made up of rioters, eunuchs, descendants of maid-servants, gang leaders as well as heroes. Great military exploits were achieved in this battle one after another for three times. However, due to Zhao Gao＇s suspicion of Zhang Han, Zhang Han had to surrender to Xiang Yu. Later, because of the lack of food, Xiang Yu ordered to bury all Zhang Han＇s army alive.
