Interpretation of Recently Discovered Correspondence Between Mao Tsetung,Song Qingling and US Organizations During the War of Resistance in China

在纽约新发现的一批中共领袖寄往美国和英国的亲笔信件,向我们展示了抗战时期中共与西方支持中国抗战国际组织建立联络的一段秘史。在延安极度困难时期,共产党的友人宋庆龄伸出援手,她利用其在国内外的政治影响力建立了"保卫中国同盟"和"工合国际"两大组织,向全世界热爱和平及反战人士寻求捐助,支持并扩大中国抗战的政治影响。宋庆龄把这种道义及物资的声援成果大都支持了中共根据地。中共领袖则适时地与宋庆龄的正义行动及声援协调互动,并利用这一走向国际政治舞台的机遇来突破蒋介石的封锁,联合一切有益的国际政治力量寻求出路,争取抗战胜利。对毛泽东、周恩来等领袖人物信件的翻译和解读及相关历史背景的研究将真实地呈现当时错综复杂的世界格局和国共关系,揭示中共早期的国际观和走向世界之筚路蓝缕的艰难历程。

Ms.Ida Pruitt was a China-born American,she worked as a social worker,author,and translator in China.She went back to the US during the Japanese occupation of China and worked for Madame Song Qinling as a secretary for INDUSCO in New York.She played a pivotal role in leading and managing this organization in America.Ms.Pruitt maintained a significant collection of documents from her work and life which she donated to Columbia University in her late age.From these materials,we witness the complicated relationship between China and the West during the War period.Specifically,we recognize the immense,and ultimately futile,efforts of CCP leaders to establish connections with the US and UK governments and nonprofit organizations during and after the War.The failure of these actions continues to impact China-US and China-UK relations to the present day.
