作为西北三线重点地区之一,优先发展国防科技工业和重工业的三线建设强力揭开了宁夏工业化和城市化的新篇章,改变了各主要城市城镇的性质、规模和发展方向,完成了变消费城市为工业城市的时代任务,形成了较为完整的区域城镇体系。在这一由重工业城市超前发展所推动的城市化浪潮中,宁夏城市化形成了以资源禀赋为首位基础、嵌入式为整体路径、区外移民为最大主体、非均衡性为突出问题等鲜明特点,从而深刻影响着三线建设时期及以后较长时期内的宁夏城市化发展。

Ningxia as one of the most important areas of the Third-line Construction in the Northwest China,priorities to the development of the national defense construction and heavy industry opened up a new chapter of Ningxia＇s industrialization and urbanization. The main cities had changed their characters,sizes and development directions. The mission of changing the consuming cities into industrial cities had been accomplished and had come into a complete regional urban system. During the process of urbanization promoting by heavy industry,the urbanization of Ningxia had formed distinctive features including that the primary basis was the natural resources,the holistic path was an embedded system,the biggest main body was the immigrant out of Ningxia and the developments were unbalanced. Those features affected the developments of urbanization of Ningxia in the period of the Third-line Construction and after that.
