摘要
《拉里的家宴》是当代加拿大著名作家卡罗尔·希尔兹的一部长篇小说,以焦虑为中心伦理主线,向读者展示了现代人在拜金主义盛行的西方社会伦理环境中所产生的焦虑。它以文学伦理学批评的相关理论为基础,阐释小说中的各种伦理焦虑现象,分析导致它们存在的伦理原因,并解读拉里为缓解焦虑所作的伦理选择,最后得出结论:现代西方社会中的很多中产阶级男性因为遭遇各种生存压力,导致精神世界面临巨大的伦理焦虑,内心的和谐稳定受到严重影响。
Larry＇s Party is a masterpiece written writer. The novel makes anxiety as the main ethical by Carol Shields, the contemporary famous Canadian line through lots of description about Larry＇s anxious feeling, and displays people＇s anxiety in the modern western society where money worship prevails. Based on the relative theories on ethical literary criticism, this paper interprets the ethical anxiety in the novel, analy- zes the ethical causes which result in Larry＇s anxiety and explains his ethical choice to ease the anxiety. The conclusion drawn at the end of the paper is ： Many middle-class men in modern western society encounter all sorts of survival pressure, which leads to their enormous ethical anxiety and severely affected inner harmony and stability.
