In April through June 2011, Nanjing Municipal Institute of Archaeology found and excavated two brick-chamber tombs (numbered as 2011NXNM1 and 2011NXNM2) of the Ming Dynasty on the south slope of the Nanda Hill in the southeast of the campus of Nanjing Forestry University and to the north of the tomb of Xu Da, the Prince of Zhongshan of the Ming Dynasty. These two tombs were arranged side by side in a distance of 6 m. Both tombs were well preserved abreast double-chamber structure without passages found, and their roofs were built of stone slabs. From these two tombs, white-glazed porcelain jars, white-and blue-glazed porcelain meiping ("prunus vases") , stone epitaphs, etc. were unearthed. The epitaphs showed that M1 was the joint tomb of the couple of Xu Shili, the great-grandson of the sixth generation of Xu Da, and M2 was the joint tomb of the couple of Xu Bokuan, the great-grandson of the fifth generation of Xu Da. This excavation provided physical and textual materials for the studies on the family burials and genealogy of Xu Da' s family and relevant issues.
