＂The Capital of Youhai＂ is One of Masuji Ibuse＇s anti-war theme novels. The novel reflects the strong critique of the militarist system. This paper hold the view that the family environment, the environment of the feudal and closed villages,and the ruler represented by the village chief have inescapable responsibility in the process of Yuuiti＇s becoming an avid militarist. The various rumors about You Yuuiti reflect the ignorance of the villagers and their self-interested mentality. In addition,the laissez-faire attitude towards Yuuiti＇s unusual behavior after the defeat has reflected the villagers＇ thoughts of self-protectionism. This kind of egoism and self-preservation thought deepened the tragedy on Yuuiti.
