The Origin and Evolution of The Antique Wall in The Long Spring Study of The Mental Cultivation Hall

随着《养心殿研究性保护项目》的进行,在长春书屋南墙发现了一堵独特的墙面,揭开了雍正及乾隆朝早期盛行的一种墙面装饰——"古玩墙"。这种绘制古玩图再制作成合牌样镶嵌在板壁上的装饰方式,因采用了西方的立体绘制,造成古玩悬挂于墙上的视觉奇观,受到皇家和民间的喜爱,成为盛行一时的装饰方式。但古玩墙被覆盖的现状,表明这种装饰方式的短暂性。古玩墙装饰方式的产生,反映了受到西方立体绘画影响,中国装饰所发生的变革和尝试。

The newly found decorative wall in The Long Spring Study(Chángchūn Shūwū in Chinese pinyin) with the implementation of the Research and Conservation Project of the Hall of Mental Cultivation uncovers the story of the ‘Antique Wall' popular in the periods from the Yongzheng's( 雍正) to the early Qianlong's( 乾隆) reigns in history. The way that the wooden partition is paneled with pictorial antique models created with the western three-D drawing techniques makes a magic visual spectacle where the objects look hanging on the wall. It becomes a fashion much adored by the royalty and folk, but the covered antique wall suggests that such a decoration style stays transient. The appearance of the antique wall shows the reform and practice of Chinese decoration that takes in the western three-D techniques at that time.
