中华人民共和国成立后,由于当时特殊的社会政治制度的原因,中国流行音乐由上海转入香港发展。此时的香港受英国殖民统治,思想"西化"较严重,为流行音乐的发展提供了宽松的文化环境。另外,英国"披头士"乐队的访港演出,台湾地区及新加坡、马来西亚汉语流行音乐对港的冲击,百代唱片、邵氏影业与丽的电视等传播媒介的强劲发展与助力,以及创编分离的流行音乐制作方式在港广泛开展,致使1950年代至1970年代的香港流行音乐出现了一片繁荣景象。

In addition, the UK＇s ＂The Beatles＂ performed in Hong Kong, the impact of Chinese popular music in Taiwan and Singapore and Malaysia, and the fast development and strong support of EMI, Shaw Brothers, and RTVmedia, as well as the production methods of the separation of popular music creation and composition in Hong Kong has been developed extensively, resulting in a prosperity of Hong Kong popular music from the 1950 s to the 1970 s.
