“Recreating”the Cooperatives: The Economic Cooperation and Value Identification of the CPC and the“International Committee for the Promotion of Chinese Industrial Cooperatives”( Gung Ho) in Yan'an

抗日战争时期,当国共两党的海外统战逐步从外交延伸至内政,抗战也成为了加速中国社会内部变革的重要动力。而发端于20世纪30年代的中国工业合作运动,便是一场以合作社的方式重建中国战时工业的经济救亡运动。它作为一条联结中国各派政治势力以团结抗战的实体纽带,深入到中国敌后多个地区。相对于以往研究多忽视共产党参与国际社会的主动性,本文将借助胡佛档案馆与哥伦比亚大学档案馆所藏的工合档案,详述中共与工合在延安经济共建的互助过程,并探讨中共与国际盟友之间的理想融通与价值认同。

The War of Resistance Against Japan was not only a war that changed the direction of Chinese society but also an important attempt by China to take an initiative to become the center of the world. To ＂be peaceful and indivisible,＂ the KMT and the CPC both sought to cooperate extensively with the international community. During the Second World War, the process of an ＂Overseas United Front＂ gradually extended from diplomacy, politics, and military affairs to economics, science and technology, and education, and during the ＂war of resist- ance＂ internal changes in Chinese society were accelerated. The Industrial Cooperation Movement in China, which originated in the 1930s in the form of cooperatives, recreated the economic salvation campaign of China＇ s wartime industry. As a physical bond linking the various political factions in China to unite in the war against Japan, it penetrated many areas of China behind enemy lines. Compared with previous studies that neglect the in- itiative by the CPC to participate in the international community, this article, by examining the archives of the ＂International Committee for the Promotion of Chinese Industrial Cooperatives＂ at Stanford University＇ s Hoover Institution and the archives at Columbia University, details the process by which the CPC and the ＂International Committee for the Promotion of Chinese Industrial Cooperatives＂ together ＂recreated＂ the cooperatives in Yan＇ an, and it discusses how the CPC actively participated in international exchanges and deepened the integration of its ideas and value recognition.
