An Analysis of the Moral Role Model in Mr. Stink from the Perspective of Ethical Literary Criticism

本文以文学伦理学批评为理论视角,分析英国当代儿童文学界代表作家沃廉姆斯作品《臭烘烘先生》中的道德榜样问题。该作品以夸张和富于想象力的创作风格塑造了"臭烘烘先生"这一颇具颠覆性的道德榜样形象,"臭烘烘先生"以独特的方式帮助故事中人物实现了心灵成长,作为道德榜样具有突出的伦理教诲功能;整部作品从儿童的心理需求和人生成长出发,具有鲜明的儿童本位特质。

This essay analyzes the issue of moral role model in Mr. Stink by David Walliams, the uprising author for children in UK from the perspective of Ethical Literary Criticism. We argue that Mr. Stink is a distinctively subversive image of moral role model created in an exaggerating and imaginative style, who helped the characters in the story to achieve mental growth; therefore, it carries out pronounced function of ethical education. This novel has apparent child-oriented features in that it caters for children＇s mental needs for growth.
