“和而不同”:中国经典书论术语的英译比较——以《书谱》三译本为例

Comparison of English Translations on Calligraphy Terminologies in Chinese Calligraphy Classics with a Case Study of Three Versions of Shupu

在全球化语境下,中国书法研究成果外译是中国文化走出去的重要部分。唐代孙过庭的《书谱》既是学习草书的最佳墨迹范本,又是中国古代书法史上公认的理论经典。本文通过比较三个正式出版的《书谱》英译本在翻译中国书法术语概念的差异,探讨其内涵意义,考察中国书法术语在对外传播时所采用的主要翻译策略与方法,开展客观的翻译批评研究,进而寻求有效的海外转播的路径。

To raise awareness of Chinese calligraphy in the context of globalization, foreign translations of calligraphy research serve as a gateway, presenting its current research status and achievements to the world. Shupu by Sun Guoting, a well - known calligrapher and calligraphy theorist of Tang Dynasty, is not only the best model for learning cursive script, but also a generally accepted theoretical classic in the history of Chinese calligraphy. By comparing the differences among translations of Chinese calligraphy terminologies in three officially published English versions of Shupu, this paper has attempted to probe into their connotations, clarify the main translation strategies and methods adopted in international promotion of Chinese calligraphy terminologies, and then carry out an objective translation criticism research, so that the study will find an effective way to overseas dissemination.
