Taking Crittercam that has emerged in recent years as a long-term "pre-history" of visual technology and social practice, the essay attempts to provide that a historical perspective for understanding the logic of animal-based visual experience production. The history of social application of Crittercam technology during the early 20th century, two world wars, the Cold War to the new century are focused to reveal that the instrumental use of non-human species has been a part of the production and consumption of Crittercam for a long time. Therefore, understanding of Crittercam's ethical issues must generate from its visual intention and technological possibilities in history.
