A Study of Stephen Owen's English Translation of Chinese Literary Theory—— With the Example of The Poetic Exposition on Literature

宇文所安是以中国古代文论研究和翻译而蜚声西方学界的翻译家,形成了关于中国古代文论的翻译思想。他通过对《文赋》英译本中字词、句调精神以及修辞这三个层面的诗学翻译手法,向西方世界英语读者重构了《文赋》中蕴含的诗学内涵以及再现了中国古典文论的诗性特质。

The study deeply explores Stephen Owen＇s poetic translation thoughts,taking Owen＇s English translation of The Poetic Exposition on Literature as an example. It then reveals that his poetic translation methods fully integrates three levels of differentiating the meaning of words,reconstructing the poetic spirit of sentences as well as rhetoric effects. In such a way,the poetic connotations and poetic characteristics imbedded in the literary thoughts of The Poetic Exposition on Literature and Chinese are reconstructed and reproduced towards the English readers in the western world.
