Cane is a literary masterpiece of Jean Toomer,a prominent American poet and novelist in the 20 th century and also an important figure in Harlem Renaissance. This is a creative and experimental work which has been widely acknowledged as ＂ the first Modernist literary work in African American literature＂. It contains poetry,essay,short story and drama. Because of their strong authenticity,poems are extremely prominent in this work. The authenticity is externally manifested as genuine emotional experience,the combination of virtual world with honesty and the concise language style. It has its own characteristics such as the overlapping of multi-layer of authenticity and the co-relation of poems with works in other literary styles.
