In-between Abstract Ideas and Future Reality:Physical Model as a Tool for Architectural Design

建筑模型有几乎和建筑本身一样长的历史。关于模型的作用与用法,阿尔伯蒂(Alberti)在其《论建筑》中已经有了十分精确的论述:模型是建筑师用以检验具体实施细节是否符合理念的工具,模型应保持简单平实,使建筑师保持对建筑创作的关注,而不过度强调模型本身的精致。物理模型在持续调整与优化并逐步达成目标过程中格外有效。它总是介于抽象设想与不确定性的现实之间,又因其身体性的特征,其在推敲对空间体验的控制方面,比其他设计工具更为直接与准确。

Architectural models have a history as long as architecture itself. In his treatise, Alberti has precisely described the role of the physical model and its usage： models are the means with which architects examine the architectural formal decisions against his ideas, furthermore, models should be kept plain and simple so that they still focus on the architectural design rather than a handmade adorable object. The physical model is very effec- tive in the process of constant modification and optimization in pursuing the final goal. It is always in-between abstract ideas and uncertain reality, and because of its corporeal character, it＇s more direct and precise than any other means, in the process of deliberating the control of spatial perception.
