Justification of an independent Scottish Literature

"有过苏格兰文学吗?"艾略特的这一提问令苏格兰文学独立存在的合法性成为疑问。本文从苏格兰文学发展的重要节点、独立文学意识的萌发,以及相关研究与学科的建立等方面,结合苏格兰的历史及其与英格兰关系的演变,讨论苏格兰文学的独立性及其学科发展的态势,并指出,目前的研究重点不是区分英格兰与苏格兰文学,而是注重苏格兰文学的自身特征和多样化表现。

The question ＂Was There a Scottish Literature＂by T. S. Eliot has long instigated the doubt about the extent to which Scottish literature can be independent. With a view of the historical development of Scotland and its relation with England,this thesis discusses the legitimacy of Scottish literature and the trend of relevant studies,from such perspectives as the crucial moments for Scottish literature,the growing justification of being an independent literature,and the relative researches as well as the establishment of the discipline of Scottish literature. It points out that the focus of current studies in Scottish literature is not to distinguish English literature and Scottish literature but to address the peculiarity and the diversity of Scottish literature.
