A mong all the temples, there were 28 Thean Hou Temples (called as Mazu Temple by southern Chinese) on all islands. It was also the earliest and largest temple in honor of Sea Goddess in north China. It was worshipped by so many pilgrims in different dynasties that the royal court, island residents, fleets along the coast from the north and the south and even emissaries from Japan and Korea all bowed in worship and piety to Sea Goddess in Miaodao Thcan Itou Temple.
