Default Responses to Polar Questions and Wh-questions in Chinese Everyday Conversation

本文所探讨的无标记回应是指符合问句规程并在形式上与问句相合的回应。在汉语自然口语中,是非问句的无标记回应包括单词型回应和简单重复型回应;而特殊疑问句的无标记回应则需要根据其分类而定。Thompson et al.(2015)认为,特殊疑问句可以分为特指性特殊疑问句和讲述性特殊疑问句。我们基于此分类,认为特指性特殊疑问句的无标记回应是短语型回应,而讲述性特殊疑问句的无标记回应则是单小句或多小句回应。

The default responses as discussed here refer to those responses that abide with the agenda of questions and are type-conforming.In Chinese everyday conversation,the default responses to polar questions include single-word responses and repeated responses,while the default responses to wh-questions should be based on the classification of wh-questions themselves.Thompson,Fox and Couper-Kuhlen（2015）suggest that there are specified wh-questions and telling wh-questions.Based on their classification,we try to identify the features of Chinese default responses to these two categories of wh-questions：phrasal answers are found to be default responses to specified wh-questions,and single/multi clause（s）to telling wh-questions.
