英汉动物习语研究及其对翻译教学的启示

Study on English and Chinese Animal Idioms and Its Implication to Translation Teaching

人类与动物自古就有着密切的联系,通过把动物的特性和人类特性相比较,人们总结出大量的动物习语来丰富人类语言。基于隐喻理论,从神话传说、历史风俗、语用意义和价值取向四个维度对比中西方动物习语的文化差异。动物习语的翻译应在尽量保留原语形象的基础上,采用不同的翻译方法,如直译、意译、套用等。

Since ancient times,human-beings and animals have been closely related. By comparing animal characteristics with human characteristics,people have summed up a large number of animal idioms to enrich human language. This article is based on the metaphor theory,from four dimensions of myths and legends,historical customs,pragmatic meanings and value orientations to compare the cultural differences of animal idioms in English and Chinese. The translation of animal idioms should adopt different translation methods on the basis of preserving the original image as much as possible. Literal translation,free translation and paraphrase method should be combined together.
