Robert Burns is a famous national poet of Scotland. His poems not only demonstrate the local customs and conditions in Scotland, but also reflect the poet＇s great yearning for freedom and his dignified sense of justice. This essay tries to illustrate Burns＇ yearning for freedom and advocacy for justice through analyzing some of his famous poetry works, such as＂Scots Wha Hae＂and ＂The Cotter＇s Saturday Night＂, so that a ploughman poet with a strong longing for freedom and an advocacy for justice can be portrayed. Moreover, this essay tries to figure out why Burns has such kind of ideal and belief through analyzing his life experience, and finds out that it is the poet＇s personality, which is characterized by the longing for freedom and the strong hatred for evil, and his ups and downs that make him have such kind of ideal and belief.
