After Donald Trump took office as U.S.president,he has made"game-changing"adjustments to American energy policy on the basis of his"America First"principle.The Trump administration has not only accelerated the development of traditional fossil fuel industries,but also expanded American energy exports.It is also determined to reduce support for new energy.Such adjustments are attributable to three factors:the close ties Trump and his major advisors have with traditional energy,a desire to boost the American economy by creating more jobs,and a determination to play a dominant role in the global energy sector.Trump's energy policy has made impressive short-term progress as it has revitalized the fossil fuel industries and expanded American oil and gas exports.In the long term,however,the Trump administration's energy policy will not only put additional pressure on the global oil and gas market that is struggling to regain its balance,but also intensify the geopolitical competition among major energy exporting countries in the world.
