The Ontology,Growth and Planning of City——The Comparative Review on the core thoughts of Lewis Mumford and Jane Jacobs

芒福德和雅各布斯是20世纪城市规划领域两位极具影响力的学者,都主张从人的尺度来开展城市规划工作。对两者核心思想的解读,不能仅限于对《美国大城市的死与生》与《城市发展史》两部著作的比较,而应当综合两者生前的一系列著作,对他们在城市本体、城市生长机制以及城市规划逻辑等方面进行评析。在上述方面评析的基础上,我们可以发现在当前全球化进程中,城市规划被当作平衡全球化与地方化战略工具的背景下,双方思想所遇到的一些问题和局限。进而我们会对当代中国的城市规划本质、区域规划重点以及城市规划所面临的时代性问题有更加深入的认识。

Lewis Mumford and Jane Jaeobs are two of the most influential scholars in the 20th century＇ s city planning, who both advocate carrying out city planning on the basis of human being＇ s scale.Whereas, the interpretation of their thoughts should not be limited to the comparison between the The Death and Life of Great American Cities and The City in History but have a thorough understanding of the whole sets of their scholarly works, so as to enable the systematic evaluation on the ontology, growth mechanism, and planning logic of cities.On the basis of that, we can reveal that under the globalization process, in which city planning is being used as the strategic tool to balance the pressure of globalization and localization, their thoughts shall be faced with some problems and limitations.Thereof, we could acquire in-depth cognition of the essence of the city planning in the present China, the emphasis on the regional planning, and the temporal problems up against the city planning.
