Ti （C, N） based cermets, as a new tool material, have the advantages of low density, excellent hardness at room temperature and high temperature, superior to WC based cemented carbide, good chemical and oxidation resistance and good abrasion resistance . The basic composition and structure of Ti（C, N） based cermets and their microstructures and their influencing factors were introduced. The current research status of Ti （C, N） based cermets was reviewed. Fu ture development directions and applications were also pointed out.
