This paper analyzes the orchestral piece Nocturnes by Debussy. It reveals that, getting out of the control of the mode function, the Major Dominant Ninth chord plays the role of pitch center independently with its ses the personalized chord structure characterestics and interrelationship with of the composer＇ s impres ther chords. The study further discus- harmonic language.
