Three-parameter Patel-Teja state equation was introduced while applications and some questions of PT were discussed. The improvement of original PT by Valderrama was introduced in detail. PVT properties of some substances were calculated by using vdw, RK, SRK,PR,PT and improved PT state equations and the prediction results were compared. The results showed that： Original PT and PR hade essentially the same effectc at lower pressure; Original PT gave bad results at medium or high pressures; Improved PT was suitable for medium or high pressures, and gave better results for either non-polar substance or polar substance than that of SRK、PR and original PT; The calculations using improved PT were simpler than that of using original PT.
